New Year's Freebie

Hi everyone. Has anyone else had a sense of the "blahs" this week? I think it is related to all of the heart wrenching sadness in Sandy Hook. Did you see the information about making snowflakes to send to help decorate the school they are moving into? You can read about it here: http://www.ctpta.org/SANDY-HOOK-FUND.html
Such a sweet and wonderful idea.

We are planning to make snowflakes in our classroom tomorrow. We are going to use coffee filters and spray them with silver glitter.

Tomorrow is our last day of school before Christmas break. I have a couple of last minute things to do before the holiday, but we are pretty much ready. We have to put our gifts in the guestroom instead of under the tree because Lucy (our Westie) thinks they are all for her and will open every present!

I have a freebie for you tonight for New Year's . . .

Prayers . . .

No words are adequate for today . . .

Merry Adjectives

We've been learning about nouns, verbs, and adjectives. I made cards with nouns, verbs, and adjectives written on them. I had the kids come up and draw one out of a bag. They had to read it and say if it was a noun, verb, or adjective. If it was an adjective they got to glue it on my giant Christmas light! After all the adjectives were glued I gave them the booklet. I let them choose adjectives from the chart to write on the blanks.  My favorite was "The hot Santa?"

You can get the word cards here.
More adjectives here.
The book is here.

Letter for Rudolph, Linky Party

Tammy from "Dots of Fun" had a great freebie giveaway this week. I had such a busy week, I missed out on grabbing most of the images, so I bought the set this morning. It was worth it to me to buy the set, even just for the bell! It reminds me of this bell which holds great sentimental value for me. My dad gave it to my mom when I was a teenager. My parents are both gone now, but when my son was a child, my mom gave it to us. We put it on our tree every year. It has always been Austie's job to place it on the tree, even now that he is 20 years old! I have it set aside for him to put on the tree when he gets home from college for Christmas next week!

Anyway, since I seem to have reindeer on the mind this morning (see previous post) ,
I decided to make a template for my class to write to Rudolph, which always proves to be lots of fun!

Symmetry and Santa

Happy Monday! Well, I guess Mondays aren't always happy, but we are on our way to Tuesday! We have been learning about Symmetry in Math and have recently completed 2 projects that utilized the concept. Here they are . . .

For the reindeer we used half a pattern to trace on a folded piece of paper.

For the bells we put drops of paint on one side of the paper and then folded in half and rubbed gently to spread the paint.

We also recently completed a Santa. Here it is . . .

I will post the pattern for you as soon as I remember to bring it home to scan! Hopefully tomorrow!

Have a restful evening!
